wisdom (wise) means intelligence that comes from experience.  it is a timely vocabulary word as tonight kids here in mexico and across the spanish speaking world will possibly get to bed early and definitely rise early tomorrow morning in anticipation of the arrival of the reyes magos. the phrase translates directly as magic kings. we know them in english as the magi (wizard, person with magical powers), but more often as the three kings or the three wise men.

the wise men will bring kids toys, candy, money or clothes. the tradition is based on these wise men visiting the baby jesus on what came to be known as the epiphany (january 6). they took him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh (two types of incense).

happy birthday! incense was a cooler present 2000 years ago. (worldscents.net)

there is a christmas carol about the three kings called we three kings of orient are

the song can help u remember what we call the reyes magos in english, but it is not necessarily great english practice. there are several weird structures and a lot of the vocabulary is either antiquated or doesn’t apply to other situations.

do u celebrate the visit of the three wise men?  what do u like most about this holiday? share your experience under leave a reply
