during the episode’s opening moments,\u00a0homer realizes a gay pride parade is passing by. \u00a0two guys marching in the parade\u00a0chant<\/strong> <\/em>(shout in rhythm)<\/p>\n

we’re here, we’re queer<\/em>, get used to it.<\/em><\/h4>\n

queer<\/strong><\/em> originally means strange<\/em> or odd<\/em>, but like gay<\/a>,<\/a> is a word that the homosexual community has made their own, and today is used most frequently\u00a0to indicate same-sex\u00a0sexual preference.<\/p>\n

get used to it<\/em> <\/strong>means accept it<\/em>, and implies something that\u00a0might not be popular but will not\u00a0change. it can be applied to any situation, but has been a gay pride slogan for decades.<\/p>\n

thanks in part to gay pride parades, society is more used to gay <\/a>lifestyles today.<\/em><\/h6>\n

apparently the springfield gay pride parade is an annual event that passes right in front of the simpson home. years ago it may have seemed \u00a0(scandalous, shocking) or difficult to process, but nowadays it’s normal.<\/p>\n

disappointed that\u00a0the parade is (doesn’t have) the shock value previous versions had, one of the marchers calls lisa a\u00a0spoilsport<\/strong><\/em> or somebody who is killing their fun<\/em>. it is similar to the concept\u00a0of a spoiler<\/strong><\/em> ruining enjoyment of a movie or tv show, thus the <\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n
