sense<\/strong><\/em> means feel.<\/em> means the warriors<\/a> have had problems<\/em>. lately<\/strong><\/em> is recently<\/em>. partly<\/em><\/strong> is partially<\/em>, in part<\/em>, one reason<\/em>. reach<\/strong><\/em><\/a> means effectively communicate with<\/em>.<\/p>\n

kerr considered letting his assistant mike brown<\/strong> (assume control) monday night. brown subbed<\/em><\/strong> (substituted ) for kerr during last year’s playoffs when kerr was suffering from back pain,\u00a0but in the end kerr concluded<\/p>\n

this is how kerr sees his staff’s role:<\/p>\n

as<\/em> coaches, our job is to nudge<\/em> them in the right direction and guide them. we don\u2019t control them, they determine their own fate<\/em>….they have to take ownership<\/em> of it.<\/h4>\n

as<\/strong><\/em> is used to refer to a position<\/em>, job<\/em> or function<\/em>. nudge<\/em><\/strong> is push<\/em>, encourage<\/em>. is similar to destiny, what’s going to happen<\/em>.\u00a0ownership<\/strong><\/em> is possession<\/em>. kerr’s idea is that the players must take responsibility for<\/em>\u00a0i.e. own<\/em> how they play.<\/p>\n

so to achieve the objective of the players taking ownership<\/em> of their fate<\/em>, kerr implemented a unique tactic against the phoenix suns<\/span><\/strong> on monday that (got attention, surprised people)– he let players take over<\/em> his coaching responsibilities. andre iguodola<\/strong><\/a>, draymond green<\/strong>, david west<\/strong>, javale mcgee<\/strong> and steph curry<\/strong> performed various gameday and in-game tasks usually reserved for coaches.<\/p>\n

the reaction was mixed. some thought the move could be understood as a lack<\/strong><\/em> (absence) of respect\u00a0 for the suns who have a record of 18-41 so far this season. but devin booker<\/strong>, the suns’ best player, doesn’t share that opinion.\u00a0 his comments contained these hypothetical observations (–if + past tense + modal auxiliary verb)<\/p>\n

if<\/u><\/em>\u00a0i\u00a0<\/em>was<\/u><\/em>\u00a0a coach,\u00a0<\/span>i’d do<\/u><\/em>\u00a0that <\/span>throughout<\/em> the year, so i\u00a0<\/span>wouldn’t even look<\/u><\/em>\u00a0at it as disrespectful…..but\u00a0<\/span>if<\/u><\/em>\u00a0he\u00a0<\/span>didn’t have<\/u><\/em>\u00a0four all-stars, i don\u2019t think <\/span>he\u2019d be doing<\/em> that.<\/span><\/h4>\n

one of those all stars is steph curry, who had some difficulty managing coaching duties. curry<\/p>\n

nearly drew<\/em> a delay-of-game warning for taking too<\/em> long in a timeout to open the second half.<\/h4>\n

curry’s comments after the game might mean that he thinks a break from the of the nba regular season will have more effect than kerr’s experiment. he commented<\/p>\n

our lack<\/em> of execution or intensity on the floor during games or\u00a0whatever<\/em> the case, we obviously haven\u2019t been great by any stretch of the imagination<\/em> in the last month. but this all-star break should be great for us to recalibrate, reset and hit the ground running<\/em>.<\/h4>\n

so can the warriors<\/a> owners stop paying kerr and just let the players coach themselves? kerr’s comments on that…<\/p>\n
