height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>the dialogue at :05 is<\/p>\n<h4>generation after generation in the english language\u00a0the tendency has been <em>reduce, contract, abbreviate<\/em>.<\/h4>\n<p><em><strong>contractions<\/strong><\/em> are <em>combinations of words written as one word, with an apostrophe in place of the letters that have been removed<\/em>. for example that&#8217;s, what&#8217;s, don&#8217;t, can&#8217;t and shouldn&#8217;t. <strong><em>reductions<\/em><\/strong> are <em>sounds that are not pronounced<\/em>. <strong><em><\/em><\/strong>(kind of),  (have got to), <a href=\"http:\/\/richyrocks.com\/the-u-the-ima-in-fua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>ima<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (i&#8217;m going to) and (trying to) are all reductions that u can find in other posts here on richyrocks.com. <em><strong>abbreviations<\/strong><\/em> are <em>shortened forms of words or groups of words<\/em> like <strong><em>nsfw<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0for<em> not safe for work<\/em> (a warning not to open a file in front of your coworkers), <a href=\"http:\/\/richyrocks.com\/lol-lmao-rofl-how-hard-are-u-laughing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>lmao<\/strong><\/em><\/a> for <i>laughing my ass off\u00a0<\/i>or <em><strong>u.s<\/strong><\/em>. for <em>united states<\/em>. native speakers are probably not always precise differentiating between these three href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/despite-definition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">despite<\/a> the prevalence of these phenomena in modern english, there are two contractions that are traditional at \u00a0christmas time but have been <strong><em>phased out<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0of (gradually removed from) english in general. listen at :16<\/p>\n<h4>and <em>yet,<\/em>\u00a0expressions like <em>\u2019tis<\/em>, as in <em>\u2019tis<\/em> the season to be <em>jolly<\/em>\u00a0or <em>\u2019twas<\/em>, as in <em>\u2019twas<\/em> the night before christmas\u00a0have disappeared.<\/h4>\n<p><em>&#8217;tis the season to be jolly<\/em> is a lyric from the christmas carol <em><strong>deck the halls<\/strong><\/em>. <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/tis-definition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><em>&#8217;tis<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is a contraction of <em>it is<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<em>&#8217;twas the night before christmas<\/em> is the first line from the famous christmas poem <strong><em>a visit from st. nicholas<\/em><\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/twas-definition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>&#8217;twas<\/strong><\/em><\/a> is a contraction of<em> it was<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/richyrocks.com\/jolly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>jolly<\/strong><\/em><\/a> means <em>happy<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<em><strong>yet<\/strong><\/em>, similar to <em>but<\/em>, marks a contrast; in this case between all of the contractions, reductions and abbreviations that we have today and the disappearance of <em>&#8217;tis<\/em> and <em>&#8217;twas<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" nicholas<\/strong> is a famous christmas poem by clement clarke moore published in 1823. the first line of the poem is &#8217;twas the night before christmas.<\/em><\/h5>\n<p>it&#8217;s a curious condition that generates this question at :24<\/p>\n<h4><em>wtf<\/em>? was there a generation in there that said, \u201c\u2019tis, \u2019tis, \u2019tis\u2019;\u00a0\u2019twas, \u2019twas, \u2019twas. naaah. those abbreviations just <em>will not do<\/em>\u201d?<\/h4>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/wtf-definition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wtf<\/a>?<\/strong> <\/em>is an abbreviation of <em>what the fuck?<\/em>\u00a0which is used to show <em>frustration<\/em> or <em>confusion<\/em>. <em><strong>will not do<\/strong> <\/em>indicates something is unacceptable and should stop. it could be written as the contraction <em>won&#8217;t, <\/em>like in the cool cut <em><strong>99 and a half just won&#8217;t do<\/strong><\/em> by\u00a0<strong>wilson pickett<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7096 aligncenter\" nowadays&#8230;<\/p>\n<h4><em><strong>cuz<\/strong><\/em> try to use \u2019tis or \u2019twas any time of the year that\u2019s not december.\u00a0people <em>gonna<\/em> be telling u, \u201c<em>stfu<\/em> benjamin franklin.\u00a0<em>stfu<\/em> ben franklin.&#8221;<\/h4>\n<p><em><strong>cuz<\/strong><\/em> is a reduction of <em>because<\/em>. <em><strong>gonna<\/strong><\/em> is a reduction of <em>going to<\/em>. <strong><em>stfu<\/em><\/strong> is an abbreviation for <em>shut the fuck up<\/em>.\u00a0<strong>benjamin franklin<\/strong> was a founding father of the u.s., and <a href=\"http:\/\/richyrocks.com\/the-3-wise-men-2-other-wise-men\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his face appears on the $100 bill.<\/a> he can be considered an icon for the word &#8217;tis as several famous quotes attributed to him contain the abbreviation. here&#8217;s a couple&#8230;<\/p>\n<h4><em>&#8217;tis<\/em> hard (but glorious) to be poor and honest<\/h4>\n<p>and<\/p>\n<h4><em>&#8217;tis<\/em> easy to see, hard to <em>foresee<\/em><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/richyrocks.com\/wtf-is-a-brexit\/\"><em><strong>foresee<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>means <em>see the future<\/em>, as in ben franklin couldn&#8217;t have <em>foreseen<\/em> that 250 years later nobody would use &#8216;<i>tis<\/i>\u00a0anymore.<\/p>\n<p><img <strong><em>odd<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(peculiar, weird) we don&#8217;t still use <em>&#8217;twas<\/em> or <em>&#8217;tis<\/em> anymore given how many shortened and abbreviated words we use regularly in
