another<\/a> ugly high school basketball moment associated with in my home state of iowa made national headlines earlier this school year.\u00a0patrick redford<\/strong>\u00a0on deadspin.com<\/strong> <\/p>\n

before a basketball game between eagle grove and forest city in forest city, iowa, two local radio broadcasters<\/em> were heard cheerily<\/em> expressing their\u00a0disdain<\/em> for the \u201cespa\u00f1ol people\u201d who played for eagle grove high school.<\/h4>\n

the most offensive and most publicized comment was<\/p>\n

as<\/em> trump would say, go back<\/em> where they came from.<\/h4>\n

as<\/strong><\/em> means\u00a0the same way<\/em>. in this example, like<\/em> is a good substitution. \u00a0go back<\/strong><\/em> means return<\/em>. the idea is that because the players have spanish last names, they don’t belong<\/a> in the u.s. \u00a0listen for the comment at 1:28 on this video.<\/p>\n

one of the students mentioned, 17-year-old\u00a0\u00a0nikolas padilla<\/strong>, showed judgment and empathy in his response to the broadcasters’ comments in this tweet.<\/p>\n
