there have been several articles published this week claiming that the seattle seahawks<\/strong><\/span> are the favorite team of the 9\/11 truthers<\/strong> (people who don’t believe the official explanation of the attacks against\u00a0the united states on september 11, 2001 and demand further investigation of the event).<\/p>\n

this is mostly thanks to seahawks head coach pete carroll<\/strong>. the relates this widely circulated anecdote<\/p>\n

two years ago, carroll met with former<\/em> army chief of staff and four-star general peter chiarelli and……brought up<\/em> many popular conspiracy theories concerned with the attacks of sept. 11, 2001<\/h4>\n

former<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>means previous<\/em> or ex<\/em>. brought up<\/strong><\/em> is a phrasal verb that indicates carroll\u00a0initiated the conversation<\/em>.<\/p>\n

coach carroll told reporters at media day that he is always interested in truth (usa today)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

at super bowl xlix<\/strong> media day this week, usa today asked carroll about his connection to the truthers. though he looked less than enthusiastic to talk about it, he didn’t reject the truthers either.<\/p>\n

additionally, earlier this season\u00a0when the seahawks released talented but problematic\u00a0wide receiver percy harvin,<\/strong>posted these comments that carroll made a couple years\u00a0ago comparing his philosophy for dealing with difficult players to u.s. policy in iraq<\/p>\n

we [could have] just talked to people and listened to what their issues were. and then tried to figure out<\/em> the best way we could support them and change things, as opposed to bombing thousands of people with shock and awe<\/a>. it might’ve taken<\/em> us longer to influence change, but nobody would’ve died<\/em>.\u00a0And the power that we could\u2019ve generated<\/em> by just being willing<\/a> to listen and see if there was a way we could answer their call and help them<\/h4>\n

figure out<\/strong><\/em> means analyze and find a solution<\/em>.<\/p>\n

it might’ve taken<\/em><\/strong> longer, nobody would’ve died<\/em><\/strong> and the power we could’ve generated<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0are all examples of how to express hypothetical situations in the past i.e. none of these things actually happened but caroll is suggesting that there were other alternatives.<\/p>\n

all of coach’s truther energy blends interestingly with what happened during the post game of\u00a0\u00a0last year’s super bowl in new york city. after the seahawks embarrassed\u00a0the denver broncos<\/strong><\/span> 43-8, mvp malcolm smith<\/strong>‘s press conference was interrupted by matt mills<\/strong>, a truther from the city who urged<\/p>\n

investigate 9\/11. 9\/11 was perpetrated by people within our own government.<\/h4>\n
