a few days ago, foxnews published from texas congressman mike mccaul<\/strong>\u00a0pledging<\/em>\u00a0solidarity and support \u00a0for president-elect donald\u00a0trump’s campaign promises of building a wall between the u.s. and mexico, and not allowing muslims to enter the u.s. the article had the additional motivation of\u00a0keeping mccaul’s name in the mix<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(under consideration) to be in trump’s cabinet as the secretary of homeland security.<\/p>\n

this popular series is about the cia, not the department of homeland security.<\/em><\/h6>\n

mccaul said<\/p>\n

donald trump campaigned on a big promise: he would secure our border and confront the illegal immigration crisis head-on<\/em>. a lot of people doubted him. and why not? politicians<\/em> have been promising to do this for years, and they have let americans down<\/em> every single<\/em> time.<\/h4>\n

head-on<\/strong><\/em> means directly<\/em> and aggressively<\/em>. politicians<\/strong><\/em><\/a> are the people who participate in politics<\/em>.\u00a0let down<\/em><\/strong><\/a> means disappoint<\/em>. \u00a0every single<\/em><\/strong><\/a> emphasizes that it always happens<\/em>.<\/p>\n

headon is also the name of a headache remedy that is applied directly to the forehead.<\/em><\/h6>\n

and mccaul, like the politician<\/em> that he is, vows<\/a> this time will be different<\/p>\n

we are going to build the wall. period<\/em>. in the process, i pledge<\/em> to stand side-by-side<\/em> with the trump administration to throw out<\/em> obama\u2019s reckless<\/em> immigration policies and start enforcing our nation\u2019s laws.<\/h4>\n

mccaul, like many americans, feels that u.s. immigration issues were created by the countries where the migrants come from<\/p>\n

our neighbors have failed to contain the crisis within<\/em> their own countries, and they must have skin in the game<\/em> to fix it once and for all<\/em>…. for starters, we can put in place new immigration fees<\/em> from mexico, institute a security toll<\/em> at border crossings, \u201cseize and freeze<\/em>\u201d drug cartel assets, and more. but it shouldn\u2019t be limited to mexico. \u00a0other countries in latin america have contributed to the crisis\u2014and failed to rein in<\/em> the chaos\u2014so they should also help pay for these fixes.<\/h4>\n

within<\/strong><\/em> is inside of<\/em>. skin in the game <\/em><\/strong>is a fashionable expression that means a strong interest<\/em>, a\u00a0significant stake<\/em>. once and for all<\/strong> <\/em>means finally and forever<\/em>. i.e. the participation of other countries is necessary to find a final solution<\/em> to this problem. fee<\/strong><\/em> and toll<\/strong><\/em> are prices paid for services<\/em>. seize <\/strong><\/em>means confiscating, taking\u00a0drugs from cartels by force<\/em>.\u00a0freeze <\/strong><\/em>is blocking the cartels’ financial movements<\/em>. rein in<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0means get control of<\/em>. the original idea of rein<\/em>\u00a0comes from\u00a0horseriding.<\/p>\n

mccaul sees the role of u.s. diplomacy\u00a0as advising other nations on how to keep their problems off american soil<\/a><\/p>\n

in turn<\/em>, we will offer to work with them to help their governments figure out<\/em> how to secure their own borders<\/em> and keep threats<\/em> from spilling over<\/em> into neighboring countries like our own.<\/h4>\n

mccaul’s commentary also reminds readers that migrants are responsible for unemployment in the u.s working class…….<\/p>\n

in the meantime<\/strong><\/em>, we can\u2019t forget about american workers.<\/h4>\n

in the meantime<\/em><\/strong> in this context is referencing how long\u00a0it will take<\/em> for\u00a0trump’s policies to work.<\/p>\n

mccaul: we will work with our neighbors to figure out<\/span> how they can fix our immigration problem.<\/em><\/h6>\n

as for muslims, mccaul proposes that<\/p>\n

in countries where our law enforcement and intelligence officials tell us we cannot confidently weed out<\/em> islamist terror operatives, we will temporarily suspend immigration until better security checks can be put in place<\/em>.<\/h4>\n

weed out<\/strong><\/em> is a phrasal verb related to\u00a0gardening. it means remove from a group<\/em>. \u00a0put in place<\/strong><\/em> means implement<\/em>.<\/p>\n

mike mccaul is one of a few candidates under consideration for secretary of homeland security. if president donald trump picks<\/strong><\/em> (selects) him, even americans who pay attention to politics will ask, “who the fuck is mike mccaul?” \u00a0whoever is selected, they will likely have a philosophy similar to\u00a0mccaul’s, and there is a possiblity that trump could choose someone even more aggressively anti-immigrant.<\/p>\n
