this funny conversation between louis c.k.<\/strong> and conan o’brien<\/strong> has been analyzed previously on richyrocks.com<\/a>\u00a0as an excellent example for understanding the idiom take for granted.\u00a0<\/em>additionally, c.k. uses\u00a0like<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/a>or\u00a0go<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(rather than\u00a0say<\/em>) several times to introduce dialogue. this is common in spoken english, especially when telling a story.<\/p>\n

for example, at :10 he\u00a0goes<\/em><\/p>\n

when i read things like the foundations of capitalism are shattering, i’m like<\/em>, “maybe we need that.”<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

later, at 2:50, he\u00a0criticizes the sensitive attitudes of air travelers<\/p>\n

\"airplane<\/a>do we take the miracle of flight and other technological comforts for granted?<\/em><\/h6>\n

at 2:15 he shares a\u00a0story about a frustrated passenger on\u00a0one of his flights<\/p>\n

[the airline] apologizes the internet\u2019s not working and the guy next to me\u00a0goes<\/em><\/span>, \u201cpssh this is bullshit.<\/em>\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

bullshit<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>in this instance means a bad deal, injustice<\/em>.<\/p>\n

louis is like, “everything is amazing, wtf?”<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

and at 1:05 describes\u00a0people’s attitudes towards\u00a0money in the past<\/p>\n

when you ran out of<\/em> money you\u2019d just\u00a0go<\/em>\u00a0“well, i can\u2019t do any more things now.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

run out of<\/a><\/strong><\/em> refers to when all of a resource, money in this case, is gone.<\/p>\n

are u\u00a0like<\/strong><\/em>,”the technology of our times is fascinating!”? \u00a0or do u always\u00a0go<\/strong><\/em>,”i’m so\u00a0pissed off!\u00a0my shit doesn’t work. damn it!”?<\/p>\n
