whoever gets the slice of cake with the baby jesus is obliged<\/em> to prepare a dinner the following feb. 2 to celebrate the day of the virgin of the candelaria.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n

in mexico, february 2 is known simply as dia de la candelaria<\/span><\/em>, and the person who finds a baby in the king cake on jan.6 has to\u00a0(is\u00a0obliged\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>to) bring\u00a0tamales<\/strong><\/em> for everyone on feb. 2, not necessarily a whole dinner.<\/p>\n

like\u00a0the majority of their english speaking former colonists in america, modern england doesn’t have a strong epiphany celebration.<\/p>\n

in an article on telegraph.co.uk<\/a><\/strong>, johanna derry <\/strong>(as we saw above with randazzokingcake.com) refers to the epiphany as twelfth night.<\/em>\u00a0she also indicates\u00a0that king cake is called\u00a0twelfth night cake\u00a0<\/em>in britain. she\u00a0calls for restoring this day to its former glory,\u00a0<\/span>especially in terms of cake. the headline says<\/span><\/p>\n

Let’s bring back<\/em> the glorious food traditions of Twelfth Night\u00a0(largely, lots of cake)<\/h1>\n

these days, not many brits know much about twelfth night, but in the\u00a0[past] it was more important than christmas day. and there are plenty of epiphany rituals – especially regarding<\/em> food – which are well worth passing onto the next generation.<\/h4>\n
