as of<\/strong><\/em> (starting) this month, tech giant google<\/strong><\/span> is now part of a holding\u00a0company<\/em>\u00a0it created for itself called\u00a0alphabet<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

a holding company<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0controls other\u00a0brands but doesn’t produce anything. advertising executive deacon webster<\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0quoted<\/a>\u00a0on cnbc<\/a><\/p>\n

the brands that will fit under alphabet — youtube, android, nest — already have a brand awareness<\/a>, so it\u00a0will function like a corporate halo<\/h4>\n

in other words, alphabet\u00a0will be in charge of\u00a0the many brands associated with google.<\/p>\n

drop<\/strong><\/em> used this way also means get rid of<\/em>. slogan<\/strong><\/em> is a phrase associated with a group or person<\/em>, usually found in advertising. \u00a0and ryan whitman’s article<\/a> noted<\/p>\n

google\u2019s quirky<\/em> nature has always been exemplified by its unofficial motto<\/em>, \u201cdon\u2019t be evil.\u201d<\/h4>\n

quirky<\/strong><\/em> means weird, unpredictable<\/em>.\u00a0motto<\/strong><\/em> is not totally distinct from slogan<\/em>, but indicates something more profound and is\u00a0probably the most common way google’s “don’t be evil” has been\u00a0referred to on-line.<\/p>\n

a creed<\/strong><\/em> is a collection of beliefs<\/em>. it is also a good synonym for motto<\/em>, but is probably used for\u00a0a longer idea. morph into<\/strong><\/em> means transform, become<\/em>.<\/p>\n

so long as<\/strong><\/em> means provided that<\/em>, or more basically if<\/em>. it’s similar to as long as<\/a>.<\/em> the joke is contrasting don’t be evil<\/em> with its replacement\u00a0in the first line of alphabet’s code of conduct, do the right thing<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

most of the alphabet<\/strong> employees will still be google employees, as part of the core search-and-advertising unit, which is the new holding company<\/em>\u2019s biggest division \u00a0[i.e] the \u201cdon\u2019t be evil\u201d phrasing is still in<\/em> full effect<\/em>, so it\u2019s hard to see anything specifically changing as a result.<\/h4>\n
