resign<\/em><\/strong> means gruden made the decision to leave<\/em>, he was not fired. abruptly<\/em><\/strong> means suddenly<\/em> and unexpectedly<\/em>. leaked<\/em><\/strong> means made public indirectly and unoffically<\/em>, usually through the media. span<\/em><\/strong><\/a> means last<\/em> or cover<\/em>.\u00a0 former<\/em><\/strong><\/a> means bruce allen doesn’t have this job anymore<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n

while there’s a myriad<\/em> of ways to interpret what “get it done” might<\/em> mean e.g.<\/em>, improving upon the franchise’s losing ways and\/or making the playoffs and\/or winning the super bowl no one can argue he ultimately did the opposite of whatever<\/em> he might’ve meant<\/em>, disgracing both himself and the organization in the process. but, again, davis would have to be willing<\/em> to hold<\/em> him to<\/em> this comment to the letter<\/em>, which remains to be seen<\/em>.<\/h4>\r\n

myriad<\/strong><\/em><\/a> means a lot<\/em>. might<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>means possibly<\/em>. e.g.<\/strong><\/em><\/a> stands for exempli gratia<\/em>, a latin phrase. it’s used in modern english to mean for example<\/em>. whatever<\/em><\/strong><\/a> means any possible<\/em> meaning that gruden intended. might’ve meant<\/em><\/strong> is third conditional<\/strong><\/a>–a hypothetical\u00a0 in the past. we are not totally sure what gruden’s idea was. might’ve<\/strong><\/em> is a contraction of might have<\/em>. meant<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is the irregular past participle of mean<\/em>. willing<\/em><\/strong> means prepared to do<\/em>. hold to<\/em><\/strong> means davis would make gruden honor<\/em> his comment<\/em> and not take any more money. to the letter<\/em> <\/strong>means exactly<\/em>. remains to be seen<\/em><\/strong> means we don’t know if davis will do that or not<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n

at the end of october it was announced that gruden and the raiders reached<\/a> an agreement, but the amount of the settlement<\/em> was not disclosed<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(reported). on cbssports.com<\/strong> john breech<\/strong> explained<\/a> that…<\/p>\r\n

due to<\/em> the way his tenure<\/em> ended with the raiders, there’s a good chance gruden didn’t walk away<\/em> with the full $40 million, but you can also probably assume that he didn’t walk away<\/em> empty-handed<\/em>.<\/h4>\r\n

due <\/strong><\/em>to<\/b><\/em><\/a>\u00a0means because of<\/em>.\u00a0 tenure<\/em><\/strong> <\/a>(pronounced TEN-yur) is time occupying a position<\/em>. empty-handed<\/em><\/strong><\/a> means with nothing<\/em>.\u00a0 the phrasal verb walk away<\/em><\/strong> means resign–<\/em>or just leave<\/em>\u00a0like it’s used in the title of this lovely 60s pop song…<\/p>\r\n
