press<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vallartadaily.com\/bad-week-for-mexico-tourism-capped-by-mistranslations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener sponsored noreferrer\"> reported<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>it has been a bad week for mexican tourism promotion, and it <em>got worse<\/em> friday when the english language version of the country\u2019s tourism website appeared with <em>hilarious<\/em> mis-translations.<\/h4>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/hilarious-definition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hilarious<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is <em>very funny<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11892\" <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/get-adjective\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">get + adjective<\/a><\/strong> and indicates <em>a transition<\/em>, <em>a change<\/em>; from <em>bad to worse<\/em> in this case. things <em>got bad<\/em> for mexico tourism the day before when they posted videos promoting night clubs in acapulco. the perception was that the tourism department wasn&#8217;t taking the pandemic seriously\u00a0&#x1f937;&#x1f3fd;&#x200d;&#x2640;&#xfe0f;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"richyrocks english on youtube\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>how bad were the\u00a0 <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/flub-definition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener sponsored noreferrer\">flubs<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (mistakes) on visitmexico.com?<\/p>\n<h4>entire states like hidalgo and guerrero apparently <em>got machine translated<\/em> as \u201cnoble\u201d and \u201cwarrior.\u201d worse for the visitmexico.com site, there was systematic and inexplicable re-invention of the names of some <em>fairly<\/em> well-known tourist towns. the caribbean resort of tulum somehow became \u201c<em>jumpsuit<\/em>.\u201d<\/h4>\n<p><em><strong>get (machine) translated<\/strong><\/em> is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/passive-voice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passive voice<\/a><\/strong>&#8212;<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/passive-voice-with-get\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">get<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is an auxiliary, <strong><em>translated<\/em><\/strong> is a past participle. <strong><em>fairly<\/em><\/strong> means <em>relatively<\/em>, <em>more or less<\/em>. a <strong><em>jumpsuit<\/em><\/strong> is a type of clothing designed as one piece. see the <strong>english practice extra video<\/strong> at the bottom of the post for several examples.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11270\" src=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/ad99d.jpg\" response to the <em>snafu<\/em>, mexico&#8217;s tourism department&#8230;<\/p>\n<h4><em>issued<\/em> a statement <em>apologizing<\/em> for the apparently <em>out-sourced<\/em> errors, but then made it sound like something sinister <em>had been involved<\/em>. \u201cthe tourism department expresses its most sincere apologies to the public and users for the effects that have occurred on the website visitmexico. <em>moreover<\/em>, we make it known that these acts <em>aim<\/em> to damage the image of the website and the department, and so <em>therefore<\/em> a criminal <em>complaint<\/em> <em>has been filed<\/em> and appropriate legal actions <em>will be taken<\/em> against those responsible.<\/h4>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/issue-definition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">issue<\/a><\/em><\/strong> means <em>release<\/em>, <em>provide<\/em>. <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/apologize-definition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener sponsored noreferrer\">apologize<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is <em>say they are sorry<\/em>. <strong><em>out-sourced<\/em><\/strong> means the people responsible for the mistake <em>worked for another company that provides services<\/em> for the tourism department.<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/past-perfect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> had been<\/a><\/em><\/strong><strong><em> involved<\/em><\/strong> is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/past-perfect-passive-voice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">past perfect passive voice<\/a><\/strong>. the company responsible for press&#8230;<\/p>\n<h4>the department did not explain that <em>claim<\/em>, but local media reported the dispute <em>might <\/em>involve a web services <em>supplier<\/em> angry <em>about<\/em> <em>not being paid<\/em>.<\/h4>\n<p>use of the word <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/claim-definition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener sponsored noreferrer\">claim<\/a><\/em><\/strong> indicates that the tourism department has this opinion, but it is not accepted as a fact. the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richyrocks.com\/coolenglish\/tag\/modal-auxiliary-verbs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener sponsored noreferrer\">modal auxiliary verb<\/a><\/strong> <strong><em><a
