the washington nationals<\/strong><\/span> had a run through the major leaugue baseball playoffs and an emotional world series victory that captured the attention of fans everywhere. president donald trump<\/strong> invited the nationals to the white house earlier this week, but several players, including closer<\/em><\/strong> (specialist pitcher who pitches the ninth inning) sean doolittle <\/strong><\/em><\/strong> (ignored) the invitation.<\/p>\n

doolittle, who had 29 regular season saves, another in the nlcs and one more in the world series explained<\/p>\n

there\u2019s a lot of things, policies<\/em> that i disagree<\/em> with, but at the end of the day<\/em>, it has more to do with the divisive rhetoric<\/em> and the enabling<\/em> of conspiracy theories and widening<\/em> the divide in this country.<\/h4>\n

policy<\/em><\/strong> is a plan<\/em>, a strategy<\/em>, a system. it is expressed in spanish with the word pol\u00edtica<\/em>, but BE CAREFUL. pol\u00edtica<\/em> can be translated into english as politician<\/em>, politics<\/a><\/em> or political<\/em> too; similar words but with different meanings and applications. at the end of the day<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is a fashionable but overused expression that means all things considered<\/em>. because of the spanish phrase estar de acuerdo <\/em>it’s common for spanish speakers to say i am agree<\/em> or she is disagree<\/em>. DON’T DO IT. it’s spanglish. just agree<\/em> and disagree<\/em>. no verb “to be” in english. rhetoric<\/a><\/strong><\/em> refers to the words<\/em> trump says and tweets. enabling<\/em><\/strong> means making it possible<\/em>. supporting<\/em>. widen<\/a><\/em><\/strong> means growing bigger<\/em>. doolittle’s idea is that the way president trump talks divides the country.<\/p>\n

the quote above is from a usa today<\/strong> article by chris bumbaca<\/strong> that reports<\/p>\n

doolittle and his wife, eireann dolan, have done extensive work with immigrants, and he’s been upset<\/em> by trump’s comments about their origin countries. [doolittle said], “my wife and I stand for<\/em> inclusion and acceptance, and we\u2019ve done work with refugees, people that come from, you know, the ‘shithole<\/em>‘ countries.'”<\/h4>\n

upset<\/a><\/em><\/strong> means altered emotionally; sad<\/em> or angry<\/em>. stand for<\/em><\/strong> means represent<\/em>, support<\/em>. shithole<\/a><\/em><\/strong> means a bad place<\/em>. doolittle is referring to comments president trump made about immigrants coming to the u.s. from several countries at the beginning of 2018.<\/p>\n

i think that\u2019s an important part of allyship<\/em>, and i don\u2019t want to turn my back<\/em> on them, i have a brother-in-law who has autism, and (trump) is a guy that <\/a>mocked<\/a><\/em> a disabled reporter<\/a>. how would i explain that to him that i hung out<\/em> with somebody who mocked<\/em> the way that he talked, or the way that he moves his hands? i can\u2019t get past<\/em> that stuff<\/em>.<\/h4>\n

allyship<\/em><\/strong> means supporting a marginalized group that u are not a member of<\/em>. -ship<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is a suffix found at the end of many nouns such as friendship<\/a>, leadership<\/a> and censorship<\/a>. turn your back on<\/strong><\/em> means ignore<\/em>, abandon<\/em>. mock<\/a><\/em><\/strong> means make fun of<\/em>, laugh at<\/em>. get past<\/a><\/em><\/strong> means forget about<\/em>, not let it bother u<\/em>. stuff<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is things<\/em>; it is referring to trump’s rhetoric<\/em>. hang out<\/a><\/em><\/strong> means associate with socially<\/em>. hangin out<\/em> are the first two words of the that 70s show<\/strong><\/em> theme song.<\/p>\n
