why is jae crowder salty?

the biggest surprise of the nba offseason was free agent superstar kevin durant leaving the oklahoma city thunder for the golden state warriors. like many other teams, the boston celtics made an effort to recruit (tried to convince him to join them) durant over the summer. the celtics’ jae crowder has some doubts about how they went about it.

peter botte‘s article in the new york daily news described it this way in a headline

Jae Crowder sounds a little salty about the Celtics’ free agent pitch to Kevin Durant

salty means pissed off or upset. pitch is a presentation that tries to convince or persuade.

salty meme
a meme to make u feel bad about being salty

crowder explains

we were the only team in the nba to beat (cleveland and golden state) on their home court. we told him that. we played him clips from both games and told him basically the scouting report of how we guarded steph (curry) and klay (thompson) — our entire game plan, basically. that’s what made me mad. we fucking told him everything we do to beat these guys, and we beat them, and he went and joined them.

it’s common when english is your second language to use win for every competitive stituation. for example, cleveland won golden state in the nba finals last year.  if u are only talking about who won, win is the right verb to use. however, if u want to mention two or more competitors as crowder does when he talks about the celtics success against cleveland and golden state last season, beat is the correct option. -cally at the end of a word should be pronounced as one syllable (clee), NOT two. check the pronunciation of basically here. fucking is used for emphasis and shows frustration on jae’s part.

a slap in the face from a monkey
the monkey slapped him in the face! but the monkey probably thought it was a slap in the face that the guy was dragging him around on a chain.

crowder added

afterward, i was talking to (teammate) isaiah (thomas), like maybe after you sit back, (we)shouldn’t have told him everything, but who the fuck thought he was going to golden state, realistically? it was like a slap in the face for us, basically.

afterward means laterafter durant decided to go to golden state. sit back means remove yourself from the situation.  shouldn’t have told him gives the idea that crowder and teammate isaiah thomas think it was a mistake for the celtics to share the strategy of how they shut down steph curry and klay thompson last season with kevin durant. this season curry, thompson and durant will be teammates.

jae crowder gives the shhh signal
crowder thinks the celtics shouldn’t have told kd their secrets. (ap)

who the fuck? emphasizes that it was a surprise to everyone that durant decided to go to the warriors. the final syllable of realistically should be pronounced the same as the final syllable of basically; clee. check the pronunciation here.  a slap in the face indicates that durant’s decision was an insult to the celtics.

jae crowder and tom brady
jae crowder and tom brady: their pitch couldn’t convince kevin durant

jae appreciated new england patriot quarterback tom brady‘s participation in the effort to convince durant

the pitch, what he (brady) talked about was the city of boston and the fans and how he embraced it. [kevin] wanted to hear how it was living in boston, and brady told him about the fans. they want to win; it’s all about championships here.

embrace means accept enthusiastically. unfortunately for the celtics and their fans, kevin durant did not embrace the idea of coming to boston.
